Trophy Trout on North Georgia's Soque River

For the past couple of years, I have been making the trip up to Clarksville Georgia to fish at Black Hawk Lodge.  Blackhawk is situated on the Soque River, which is a small winding river that you can easily wade across almost any part.  The section has a stretch of river that runs through private land where they carefully manage their fish.  The action is superb and the fish range from 3lb. to 12lb with a good mix of big beautifully colored Browns to brilliant Rainbows.  We typically fish with 6 weight rods and use 3x to 5x tippet and depending on the time of year fishing nymphs and midges, or dry flies when the fish are rising.  Typically using #18 to #20 barbless hooks.  There are some real slabs in this section of river, so it takes some finesse to land the larger fish, however with the small size of the river it is a real treat to play a tank of a brown on a 6 weight and a #20 barbless hook and finally land it in the net and then do a release.  The scenery is beautiful in this part of North Georgia.  I have fished for trout from coast to coast in the US and fished Internationally from Spain to New Zealand however the fishing in this part of North Georgia is as good as it gets anywhere!
